<p>The present invention is for testing channel elements in an RF communications system. After a channel element (24a - 24d) to be tested is identified, a communications node (26) and associated forward link signal (30) corresponding to the channel element (24a - 24d) to be tested are identified while the channel element (24a - 24d) to be tested is active during normal system operation. An RF diagnostic system (34) receives a sampled RF forward link signal (30) and associated forward link signal coding information, and decodes the forward link signal based on the coding information. Once the forward link signal (30) is decoded, the RF diagnostic system (34) tests and measures signal information such as subscriber messaging and sequence information to determine whether the channel element (24a - 24d) is functioning properly.</p> |
