A small-sized optical connector for connecting an optical fiber and an optical device with low connection loss. The optical connector (2) has a plug housing (housing) (6). A lock arm (5) projecting toward the front end (20) of the housing (6) is provided at the center of the bridge (9). An engagement pawl (4) for engaging the optical connector (2) with a pawl engagement hole (11) of an adapter (1) when the optical connector (2) is plugged into the adapter (1) is projected upward from the front of the lock arm (5). When the optical connector (2) is unplugged from the adapter (1), the center of the bridge (9) is pressed from above to elastically deform the bridge (9). As a result, the engagement pawl (4) is moved down and disengaged from the pawl engagement hole (11), and the optical connector (2) is pulled off.
