PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device having a plurality of paper discharge trays and capable of efficiently detecting whether or not recording paper is placed on the paper discharge trays. SOLUTION: In the image forming device having a plurality of paper discharge trays, at least one detection means for detecting whether or not sheets of recording paper with images already formed thereon are placed on the paper discharge trays is provided on a device body. The detection means and the plurality of paper discharge trays are moved relative to each other to detect whether or not sheets of recording paper are placed on the plurality of paper discharge trays.
