PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gateway device capable of real time Internet facsimile communication that utilizes not only a public line but also other communicating means and communication protocols. SOLUTION: This gateway device 1 performs communication by a service class 1 protocol or a service class 2 protocol with an external computer 2 connected through a communication cable 3 by an external interface 14. The device 1 also performs communication by a LAN protocol with a terminal device 6 connected through a LAN 7 by a LAN interface 15. The device 1 communicates with the computer 2 and the terminal device 6 by these protocols, performs communication by the real time Internet facsimile protocol by using the Internet 8 with an Internet communicating part 12, and relays real time facsimile communication using the Internet 8.
