PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photocatalytic coating composition which has hydrophilicity (self-cleaning function) while maintaining the gloss of the substrate surface and, in addition, excels in durability. SOLUTION: The coating composition is constituted of a photocatalytic metal oxide, a hydrophilic metal oxide, silica and/or a silica precursor, and a refractive index adjustor such as cerium oxide.
