PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refuse drying apparatus producing a drastically reduced amount of dried waste gas by making use of a heat source for thermally decomposing/gasifying/melting equipment. SOLUTION: A refuse drying apparatus 10 of the present invention comprises a compression means 58 for compressing refuse and heating plates 54a, 54b, and 64 provided in a predetermined interval in parallel to each other, and dries with conduction heat from the heating plates refuse by passing the refuse compressed with the compression means through between the heating plates. In such a construction, water in the refuse is previously squeezed out with the aid of the compression means. The compressed refuse is sent to between the heating plates and is heated by the same. Thereupon, the refuse is already compressed, so that drying is achieved with satisfactory heat conduction and with excellent effect, to result in the drastically reduced amount of dried waste gas exhausted.
