The invention concerns a surveillance device comprising an electronic central unit, monitoring sensors and alarm devices, and destined to emit an alarm when an intrusion is detected in the watched zone. The method for using such a device consists in that: a person authorised to circulate in the monitored zone when the surveillance device is activated is provided with an identifying means; the presence of said identification means is detected by the identification detector; said identification detector sends a signal to the electronic central unit to indicate the presence of an authorised person in the action zone so that it disregards the signals transmitted by the monitoring sensor provided in said zone and does not emit an alarm signal.
