PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To delete a see through without deleting low density halftone dots, which is implemented with a simple algorism and one time reading of an original, suppress unevenness in a background that is generated after removing the see through, and prevent the collapse of the halftone dots. SOLUTION: An image data correction apparatus (0p10) comprises means (60) for detecting the difference between the highest and the lowest densities within a small area of two dimensions, means (65) for detecting whether image data is a halftone dot portion, density converting means (63, 69, 70) for changing image data, of which the difference between the highest and the lowest densities belongs to an area which is below a predetermined level and is not a halftone dot portion, and moreover the density is below a predetermined value, is changed to a low density set value. The apparatus further comprises smoothing out means (71) for smoothing out the changed image data, means (72) for selecting between the smoothed out data and not-smoothed out data, and means (73) for specifying which is to be selected. This selective specification is executed automatically by a detection, output I of halftone dot detection (65) or correspondingly to specification of 'character'/'halftone dot' by an operator. |
