PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magneto-optical recording medium reproducing device capable of obtaining satisfactory reproducing performance by controlling the increase of noises and also controlling the increase of power consumption when a magneto-optical recording medium optimized to the magneto-optical recording medium reproducing device having different light source wavelengths or different numerical apertures is reproduced. SOLUTION: The magneto-optical recording medium reproducing device is provided with an intrasurface magnetic field 'necessary' or 'unnecessary' judging part 2, a magnetic field switching part 3 and a magnetic field generating part 4. Whether the application of an intrasurface magnetic field is necessary or not is judged by the intrasurface magnetic field 'necessary' or 'unnecessary' judging part 2 when the magneto-optical recording medium 5 of magnetic ultra resolution is reproduced. The presence or absence of the intrasurface magnetic field which is applied from the magnetic field generating part 4 is switched by the magnetic field switching part 3 based on the judged result of the intrasurface magnetic field 'necessary' or 'unnecessary' judging part 2.
