<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable information terminal using a pointing device sufficiently miniaturized and allowing an easy moving operation of a pointer (cursor). SOLUTION: The pointing device 4 is arranged in a through hole 8a part arranged in an outer case 8 of the portable information terminal. The pointing device 4 is constructed of a finger plate 4a installed into the through hole 8a by means of a hinge 4e, a photographing element 4c arranged on a circuit board 6, a condensing lens 4d forming an image on the outside face of the finger plate 4a on a photographing face of the photographing element 4c, and a light emitting device 4b radiating illumination light onto the outside face of the finger plate 4a, and a pattern such as a fingerprint of a fingertip 7 abutted to the outside face of the finger plate 4a is photographed by means of the photographing element 4c. When the fingertip 7 is moved while pressed to the finger plate 4a, an image photographed by the photographing element 4c is changed, and according to this change, the pointer displayed on a display screen is moved in the direction of the change by a distance matching the change quantity.</p> |
