PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for data exchange which decrease the rate of the occupation of a bus in actual data transfer, minimizes the overhead, and further facilitates priority control and exchange capacity expansion by addressing a data buffer through configuration (setting of address space) for a system equipped with a PCI bus. SOLUTION: The data transfer of a communication control part is all represented by write commands and the configuration (setting of address space) on the PCI bus is used to separate the addressing of the data buffer into logical addresses and physical addresses. Further, the bridge function between PCI buses is used to expand the exchange capacity by using the same architecture and make the whole exchange device dual.
