PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a colored wood, and an apparatus and a method for forming the colored wood, wherein a decorative property is excellent even though the colored wood is not passed through a polishing process and a coating process after treatment by steam. SOLUTION: A pressure vessel wherein vapour of a specific pressure is fed to an inside; a pair of press tools (7 and 8) which are arranged oppositely inside the pressure vessel 1 and have a tool for transferring a pattern to a wood material 10a containing any one of agathis, a poplar and a katsura tree; and a driving means 2 wherein the wood material 10a is compressed by operating the press tools (7 and 8), and an irregular pattern is transferred to the wood material 10a, are provided.
