PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the quality of an image by solving the difference in concentration generated in one original in an image read device for reading one original by intermittently operating exposure scanning. SOLUTION: This image reading device for performing intermittent reading operation is provided with a white reference plate (not shown), arranged longitudinally with respect to the main scanning direction of a valid image area; a light quantity detecting part 34a for leading reflected lights from the valid image area of the white reference plate to an image sensor and for detecting the light quantity of the main scanning one line; and a CPU 51 for controlling a value outputted form the image sensor, when the prescribed fluctuation of the light quantity detected by the light quantity detecting part 34a, before and after the intermittent reading operation is generated.
