775,025. Batteries. FULLER, L., and SUDLOW, E. W. June 16, 1955 [July 6, 1954], No. 19776/54. Class 53. A dry accumulator has compressible porous sheet separators 23, e.g. of glass wool, which are wider and longer than the plates 21, 22, the separator bottom edges 28 being tamped or otherwise pressed to form a firm porous layer serving as a plate support. In Fig. 4, the plates 21, 22 are supported by separate members 30 of porous material extending beneath and along the lower edges of the plates. In both arrangements the firm bottom layers of porous material supporting the plates are held in a compressed state by the squeezing of the plates and separators when located within the casing. The electrolyte can readily seep from the accumulator top through the loose separator side margins 26 to reach the compacted bottom layers on which the plates rest. Specifications 537,377, [Group VIII], 580,396, 602,704, 649,866 and 728,719 are referred to. |
