PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piezoelectric transformer wherein its height can be made further smaller by using its case body one of whose principal surfaces has an opening portion, its discharge and short-circuit can be prevented, the reduction of its driving efficiency is suppressed as much as possible, its productivity can be improved, and its producing cost can be reduced. SOLUTION: The piezoelectric transformer has a laminated-layer type piezoelectric- transformer element having formed input and output electrodes and has an insulating case body having an opening portion and having sidewall portions and a principal- surface wall portion which are opposed to the laminated-layer type piezoelectric- transformer element. Also, the laminated-layer type piezoelectric-transformer element is so formed that its input electrode 12a is exposed to one of its principal surfaces and its input electrode 11a is not exposed to the other of its principal surfaces. Further, the piezoelectric transformer is so formed that the principal surface of the laminated type piezoelectric-transformer element whereon the input electrode 12a is formed is stored oppositely to a principal-surface wall portion 20A of the case body, and that the input and output electrodes of the laminated-layer type piezoelectric- transformer element are not exposed to the external from the opening portion of the case body.
