PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To further improve damping force in a blade tensioner. SOLUTION: This blade tensioner 1 is constituted of a blade shoe 2 having a chain sliding surface 20a, a base 4 for rotatably supporting a base end part 2a of the blade shoe 2 and a blade spring 3 in which a base end part 3a is fixed to a tip part 2b of the blade shoe 2, a bent part 3 at the tip is abutted on an internal surface 20b of the blade shoe 2 and a curved part 3c at the middle is abutted on a slide surface 4a of the base 4. In this case, damping force of the blade tensioner 1 is increased by sliding resistance generated between the bent part 3b of the blade spring 3 and the internal surface 20b and between the curved part 3c and the slide surface 4a.
