摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve maximum output by setting the operating angle of an exhaust valve sufficiently large while reducing residual gas by making a valve overlap in an idling region minus. SOLUTION: This variable valve system for an internal combustion engine has an intake operating angle change mechanism 1 for changing the operating angle of an intake valve 12 in a range from a minimum operating angle to a maximum operating angle; an exhaust phase change mechanism 12 for changing the operating angle phase of the exhaust valve in a range from the most delay phase to the most advance phase; and a control part 5 for controlling the driving of both mechanisms 1, 2 on the basis of the operating state of the engine. In the idling state, it is so controlled that the intake valve 12 is at the minimum operating angle and that the exhaust valve is in the most advance phase, and at this time, it is so set that the opening timing of the intake valve 12 is after the top dead center and that the closing timing of the exhaust valve is after the top dead center.
