PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an organohalosilane, at much increased production rate without decreasing effective silane selectivity. SOLUTION: This method for producing an organohaslosilane comprises charging a catalyt4c mass comprising metallic silicon powder and a copper catalyst in a reactor and introducing a gas containing an organohalide thereinto and is characterized by that the catalytic mass comprising the metallic silicon and the catalytic component contains a complex represented by the formula MxL1yL2z wherein L1 is an organophosphino compound represented by the formula R1R2P-(Y2a-PR3)b-R4 wherein R1, R2, R3 and R4 are each a univalent hydrocarbon group; Y2 is a bivalent organic group; (a) is 0 or 1; and b is a>=0 integer, M is a metallic atom forming a coordinate bond with L1; L2 is H, a halogen atom orπ, accepting ligand which is directly bound to M; x is >=1 integer, y and z are each an integer satisfying formulae 1<=y, 0<=z and 1<=y+z<=6x.
