PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a sheet carrying device which a lever-type sensor for detecting that the top of a sheet document has reached a prescribed position in a carrying passage from generating a time lag in the detection or unconformity in the reading motion either when the top of the sheet on the normal condition touches the sensor or when the top of the sheet on the curled or warped condition touches the sensor. SOLUTION: The sheet carrying device has a detecting means for detecting that the top of a carried sheet has reached a prescribed position in a curved carrying passage. The device also has a correcting means such as a projecting member projecting toward a carrying passage guide member outside an inner carrying passage guide member forming the carrying passage on the upstream side of the carrying passage of the detecting means for correcting the shape of the top of the sheet and guiding the sheet to the detecting means.
