PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a moving image and static image image pickup device that can photograph moving images in compliance with a television broadcast system, a still image with high image quality having the number of lines equal to or larger than that of the television broadcast system, consecutively shot the moving image and the static image with superior operability for consecutively photographing the moving image and the still images which will miss not the shutter opportunity of the static image photographing. SOLUTION: The moving image and static image image pickup device has a solid-state image pickup element and two different drive systems, obtains a moving image, in compliance with a television broadcast system from an output signal of the image pickup element, employing a number of lines larger than the number of scanning lines in compliance with the television broadcast system, and obtains a still image of high image quality from an output signal of the image pickup element, having the number of lines larger than number of the scanning lines in compliance with the television broadcast system in field timing consecutive to moving image photographing timing.
