PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that overhead of processing is increased and the processing speed is reduced when extended data of an image memory are written without destroying the data. SOLUTION: Image data to be transferred to a temporary region 102 are beforehand expanded in a buffer memory 3. A CPU 4 all at once reads R, G and B and expanded data arranged in the addresses that are made continuous from a leading portion of the buffer memory and transfers image data, that can be stored in the region 102, onto an image memory 1. A memory controller 2 copies the data of a red plane 11, a green plane 12 and a blue plane 13 of the region 10-2 into a leading portion of an image region 101. Image data are transferred without destroying the data stored in an expanded plane 14 of an image region by repeating transfer operations from the buffer memory to the temporary region and from the temporary region to the region 101.
