USB-ATAPI INTERFACE SYSTEM AND ATAPI-USB CONVERTER USED FOR IT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow PC to detect the status of the ATAPI apparatus of an ATAPI-USB converter communicating between a host and the ATAPI-USB converter via an USB I/F. SOLUTION: Data and commands are communicated in a USB protocol format between the PC 1 and the ATAPI-USB converter 9 via a USB cable 17. The status of the ATAPI apparatus 10 writing or reading the data is written on a built-in status register not shown in the figure, and the PC 1 issues a vendor fixing request for reading the content of the status register with the vendor fixing request issuing function 5 of a USB host controller 4. When the vendor fixing request is received by the ATAPI-USB converter 9, the content of the status register is read by the ATAPI status acquiring function 13 of a system controller 12 and sent to the PC 1.
