A method for driving an ink jet recording head and an ink jet recorder in which the flight of a satellite can be sustained in good state constantly when a large droplet is ejected regardless of variation of the environment temperature and refill after ejecting a large droplet is quickened. The waveform for driving a piezoelectric actuator comprises a first voltage variation process (71) for compressing a pressure generating chamber at rising time t1, and a second voltage variation process (72) for expanding the pressure generating chamber at falling time t3 after holding the voltage for time t2. The starting time, the voltage variation time and the voltage variation amount of the second voltage variation process are so determined that the first and second peak speeds v1, v2 of particles generated at a nozzle part satisfy the condition 0.3<v>2</v>1<?0.6 in a room temperature environment. Generation of a low-speed satellite or a micro satellite is prevented over a wide temperature range, the flight of a satellite can be sustained in good state at all times, refill after ejecting a large droplet can be quickened, and an ink droplet can be ejected with high frequency.
