888,054. Additional air admission devices. AUGUST, P. July 1, 1960 [July 2, 1959], No. 23146/60. Class 7(2). An extra air inlet between the carburetter and the cylinders of an engine comprises two pistons 1, 4, Figs. 1 and 2, piston 1 being controlled in dependence on the carburetter throttle control by means of a Bowden cable 2 whereas the other piston 4 is adapted to follow it up under the action of a spring 5 if not braked by the suction in the induction pipe acting through a port 7. A nose or groove may be provided on the pistons to guarantee a limited through-flow cross-section. The additional air enters the pipe 8 from the carburetter or other air filter and passes through the variable cross-section between the two pistons and through a tapered valve slot 9 controlled thereby to a duct 10 from where it travels via ducts 14, 15 to mixing zones 16, 17 in each induction pipe B. The additional air enters the induction pipe via conical inserts, Fig. 3, tapered in the direction of flow and is first supplied to the duct 14 from slot 9 and as the piston 1 moves to the right additional air is supplied via duct 15. Each mixing zone may be supplied with additional air through two ducts, one longer than the other. |
