PURPOSE: A saving system for a discharge lamp is provided to prevent an electric power supply from being interrupted, and also prevent a discharge lamp from being turned off. CONSTITUTION: A pair of coils(C11,C12) are opposite to each other in direction of winding. An insulator is interposed between the coils(C11,C12), such that the coils(C11,C12) function as a double winding transformer having subtractive polarity. One or a plurality of taps(T11,T12,T13,T14) are installed along a longitudinal direction of the secondary coil(C12). One among the taps is connected to a switch(S11). When the plurality of taps are installed on the secondary coil(C12), which tap is connected to the switch is determined depending on what % of a voltage is used as a voltage for discharge sustain. When only one tap is installed on the secondary coil(C12), at what point of the secondary coil the tap is installed is determined what % of the first voltage is used as the voltage for discharge sustain.
