PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for defragmenting a storage medium, i.e., a method for detecting and correcting the fragmentation of an optical storage medium and a computer program product which implements the method. SOLUTION: This method has a step (12) for determining the quantity of fragmentation of a medium, a step (13) for determining whether or not the quantity of fragmentation exceeds a specific threshold, and a step (14) which defragments the medium when the quantity of fragmentation exceeds the specific threshold.
