PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup device and a processing method for color image pickup signal by which the reproducibility of an image having a border with clear contrast can be enhanced and the definition of the image can be enhanced in the unit of pixels. SOLUTION: A low frequency image signal (GL) and a high frequency image signal (DGH) are extracted from a G component (BDG) of an original image signal picked up by a single board type color image pickup device, the correlation between a target pixel of the low frequency image signal and adjacent pixels around the target pixel is evaluated, by using the result of correlation interpolates a target pixel (information missing pixel) of the high frequency image signal and synthesizing the high frequency image signal (DGH) after the interpolation with the low frequency image signal (GL) generates an output image signal (GH). Interpolating the high frequency image signal (DGH) can generate the interpolated image signal (GH) whose definition is enhanced in the unit of pixels without losing the sharpness of the edge parts of the image.
