PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a precursor fiber bundle for producing a carbon fiber scarcely causing an end breakage and generation of a fuzz and capable of providing a tow in a form easy to handle in a production process of the carbon fiber. SOLUTION: This precursor fiber bundle for producing the carbon fiber has a coefficient of dynamic friction between fiber and fiber within the range of 0.05-0.30, number of crimp within the range of 4 ridges per 25 mm to 12 ridges per 25 mm and degree of crimp within the range of 4-17%.
