A gland packing formed from a material comprising an expansion graphite tape which is wound so as to be stacked in a spiral fashion. The packing prevents seeping leakage from minute gaps existing at the windingly stacked portions, exhibits secure sealing properties by being sufficiently deformed even with a small tightening force and shows good flexibility relative to wear to thereby secure a high sealing performance over a long period of time. This gland packing has ring-like bank portions (2, 3) on the end surfaces of a die mold packing portion (1) which is constituted by an expansion graphite tape (1a) wound so as to be stacked in a spiral fashion, the ring-like bank portions being made integral with thhe die mold packing portion (1), and ring-like sealing members (4, 5) are disposed on and in close contact with the end surfaces of the die mold packing portion excluding the ring-like bank portions (2, 3) in such a manner that the ring-like bank portions (2, 3) protrude axially beyond the external surface of the ring-like sealing members.
