PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate confirmation of assembling or evaluation of a laser beam scanning unit by enabling constant modulation through an optical modulating section. SOLUTION: The laser beam scanning unit 100 comprises a laser light source 104R generating a laser beam, an AOM 108 for modulating the intensity of a laser beam based on a specified image signal, a memory 1012 for storing optical modulation data for operation confirming test, i.e., a reference image signal, and a switch 1014 for inputting the reference image signal to an AOM driver 111 in place of an image signal from a main substrate 1002.
