PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for identifying a DSP(Digital Signal Processor) in a vocoder board of an IMT-2000 BSC(Base Station Controller) is provided to assign an intrinsic ID of DSPs for performing a dual port RAM communication between a CPU and the DSPs. CONSTITUTION: A dual port RAM(1300) is installed between a plurality of DSPs(1100) and a CPU(1200) for performing a dual port RAM data communication between the DSPs(1100) and the CPU(1200), and has a plurality of transmitting/receiving data storing regions(1310) and a specific address region(1320). The transmitting/receiving data storing regions(1310) are assigned in the DSPs(1100), and store a transmitting/receiving voice data of each DSP(1100) and have a plurality of channel regions(1311) having a transmitting region(1311-1) for storing the transmitting voice data and a receiving region(1311-2) for storing the receiving voice data. The specific address region(1320) stores DSP identification data and a vocoder algorithm start instruction transmitted from the CPU(1200).
