PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator shaft having new function and commercial value given by forming an outer wall by a membrane. SOLUTION: A cylindrical elevator shaft 2 is erected adjacent to a building 4. The shaft 2 is connected to the building 4 through a connecting bridge 6. An elevator cage is installed to be elevated in the shaft 2. The outer wall of the shaft 2 is formed by a translucent membrane. A light source is installed in the interior of the shaft 2 to illuminate the shaft outer wall from the inside. At night, the quality and feeling of the membrane are utilized so that the shaft 2 is lighted like a paper-covered lamp stand in darkness to give warmness and calmness to the environment.
