The upper part of the mechanism (174) includes first and second branches (175,176). The first part (176) is free to pivot about the lower link (194), and the second part (175) carries a cam surface (171). A roller (173) is in close contact with the cam. The operating mechanism (38) for a circuit breaker serves to separate two electrical contacts (74,66), and includes a lower operating link (194) acting upon one of the contacts.
