The invention comprises a process for producing lysergamide and isolysergamide by cultivation of the strain Claviceps paspali Stevens and Hall, NRRL 3027, in a nutrient medium. Lysergic acid and isolysergic acid are obtained by hydrolysis of the amides obtained as above. Ergobasine, ergobasinine, chanoclavine, elymoclavine, penniclavine and agroclavine are obtained as by-products.
