PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-directional input device at a low cost as first and second variable resistors 17, 20 in an existing multi-directional input device have a resistance variable according to the tilt move of an operating lever 13 and has a problem with the high manufacturing cost due to a large number of its parts, such as a carbon resistor, electrode terminal, sliding contact, terminal and case. SOLUTION: The multi-directional input device comprises a first interlocking material 2 having a first long ditch 2d, a second interlocking material 5 having a second long ditch 5d, the frame 1 erecting the first and the second interlocking materials, the printed-wiring board 8 covering the frame and the operating axis 4 which is supported by the first and the second interlocking materials and which controls the tilt. The variable electrodes 3a are fixed on the first and the second interlocking materials. The fixed electrodes 3b, 3d are fixed to oppose the movable electrodes on the board. The movable electrodes are rotated by operating the operating axis to change the opposed area of the movable and fixed electrodes. The operating direction of the operating axis is attained by detecting the change in the electrostatic capacitance between the movable electrodes and the fixed electrodes. |
