omega -Substituted phenyl-prostaglandin E-alcohols of the following general formula (I) wherein each symbol is as defined in the description. Because of strongly binding to PGE2 receptors (in particular, subtype EP4) of carboxylic acids formed via oxidation in vivo, the compounds of the general formula (I) are expected as useful in preventing and/or treating diseases such as immune diseases, asthma, osteoegnetic failure, nerve cell death, lung injury, liver injury, acute hepatitis, renal insufficiency, hypertension, myocardial ischemia, systemic inflammatory reaction syndrome and septemia, and efficacious for diseases in association with sleep failure and platelet agglutination.
