PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operation device of an elevator in service interruption allowing a person to escape from a cage by smoothly raising or lowering the cage stopped between floors by service interruption. SOLUTION: In the elevator in which DC current smoothed with a smoothing capacitor 3 is converted into variable voltage DC current with a DC chopper circuit 4 to drive a DC motor 5, a balance weight 13 and a cage 12 suspended in a well bucket type are raised or lowered, either heavy one of the cage 12 and the balance weight 13 is lowered to a floor bed, and by controlling field current of the DC motor 5 and keeping the terminal voltage of the smoothing capacitor 3 in a DC circuit in the specified value, a regeneration power generated by operation is consumed in the DC motor 5.
