A crossing method and apparatus for an e-commerce system for electronic transactions. Electronic transactions involve participants having interests in instruments to be crossed. A crossing unit stores variables for use in mapping the interests of the participants, stores constraints for limiting the mapping of interests of the participants and stores an expression relating the variables. The crossing unit operates to determine values of the variables that optimize the expression, while satisfying the constraints, thereby mapping the interests of the participants. The determining step communicates the variables to a solver tailored to optimize the expression, while satisfying the constraints, thereby mapping the interests of the participants. |
