The invention relates to methods by means of which the objects that resemble best a pattern object are selected from a plurality of objects in an efficient manner. The number of the objects to be considered is limited by means of efficiently calculated threshold values. According to the methods, search strategies use the values of the characteristics pertaining to the objects to be considered for an efficient search strategy.
