摘要 A porous oxygen electrode containing a silver catalyst is formed by sintering a compacted powder mixture of a silver compound, which is heat resistant at sintering temperature, and a metal or metal compound and then reducing the silver compound to silver. The silver compounds are the halides and phosphates and the metal powders may be Ni, Cu-Ni or Ni with a surface oxide coating, or NiO powder. A pore forming powder such as (NH4)2 Co3 or NaCl may also be added to the mixture, the carbonate being removed during heating and the chloride leached out before or after sintering. Sintering is carried out in an inert gas or hydrogen below the melting temperature of the silver compound and if NiO powder is added sintering is effected below 500 DEG C. The final reduction is carried out by chemical reduction in aqueous solution or in gaseous hydrogen or preferably electrochemically in acid or alkaline solution.
