PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight for color liquid crystal display that is easy for designing. SOLUTION: A rare-gas discharge tube 4 was disposed nearest a light guide plate 2, made with the largest diameter matching with or nearly matching with the size in the thickness direction Y at an opening 3a of a reflecting mirror 3, and is provided with a light diffusing part 4a at least on a half region in the planar direction X of the rare-gas discharge tube 4. |
