A tool 10 for wrapping a conductor wire C around a terminal post T including a rotatable bit 28 having a terminal receiving bore 44 and a conductor receiving groove 50 opening at the end face 46 of the bit, surface means R, 64 on the end face 46 for guiding and camming respectively the conductor wire on to the terminal post T is characterized in that the bit 28 has a coating of titanium carbide. The conductor wire C is positioned in the receiving groove 50 and is passed through a slot 52 so that when the bit 28 rotates, the end 48 of the conductor wire is withdrawn from the groove 50 as it is wound round the terminal post. The titanium carbide coating has a surface finish produced by a vapour deposition process carried out at a temperature of 1840‹ F. The bit 28 is produced by rough turning a blank to form a notched integral shank portion 36 and a diameter 41. The conductor guide surface R is formed by removing a small amount of metal in the vicinity of the surface by a drill spot or end mill followed by a coining operation. Subsequent steps involve machining and finish grinding of a terminal bore 44, the conductor groove 50 and the camming surface 64. |
