PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a membrane concentration apparatus which enables concentrating excess sludge in a sludge concentration vessel into a prescribed sludge concentration without necessitating a space for newly disposing a mechanical sludge concentration apparatus and a sludge receiving vessel. SOLUTION: This membrane concentration apparatus is provided with a partition wall 2 which divides the inside of the sludge concentration vessel and forms a concentration region 3 where the excess sludge is stored and a supernatant liquid region 4 storing supernatant liquid, an immersion type membrane separator 8 which is immersed in the concentration region 3, an air diffuser 9 which is disposed on an under part of the immersion type membrane separator 8, a level gauge 5 measuring the liquid level of the concentration region, a supernatant liquid collecting system 10 which guides the supernatant liquid separated by the immersion type membrane separator 8 into the supernatant liquid region and has a discharge port 11 at the position of a prescribed height of the supernatant liquid region 4, a control valve 12 disposed in the supernatant liquid collecting system 10 and a supernatant liquid discharging system 17 which discharges the supernatant liquid retained in the supernatant region 4. Therein, the excess sludge in the concentration region 3 is subjected to solid-liquid separation at the immersion type membrane separator 8 by utilizing the water head and the excess sludge is concentrated.
