PURPOSE: To increase the transverse draw ratio, as the tensile strength of the transversely drawn woven fabric in the transverse direction is retained, when a raw fabric web comprising a plurality of filaments is transversely drawn to produce the transversely drawn nonwoven fabric. CONSTITUTION: The raw fabric web 1 at is preliminarily heated in the preheater 22 and drawn at a draw ratio of 1.2-3 transversely in the first transverse drawing unit 23, as the raw fabric web 1 is held at both of the ends of the web with a pair of drawing pulleys and a circulation belt and is exposed to the hot air from the hot air out-blowing outlet 11 and heated up to 5deg.C higher than the temperature suitable for drawing. Then, in the second transverse drawing unit 25, the web 1 is further transversely drawn, as it is held at both of the edges with a pair of.the drawing pulleys and the circulation belt and is heated at the temperature suitable for drawing with the hot air from the hot air outlets 5a-5g whereby the objective transversely nonwoven fabric 12 that is totally drawn at a draw ratio of >= 7 in the transversely direction and has a transverse tensile strength of >= 1.5 g/d is obtained.
