PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide coloring matter which can obtain a purple-green record high in density by low-level energy when applied to thermal transfer recording. SOLUTION: Thiazole dimer azo coloring matter for thermal transfer expressed by formula I (wherein X and Y are each a hydrogen atom or an optional substituent; Ar is an aromatic ring which can have a substituent).
