摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bit depth expansion method of a display system. SOLUTION: Static display noise (fixed pattern errors 20) of a display device 14 is measured, pseudo-random noise 12 is generated employing the display noise and the noise 12 is subtracted from a continuous gradation image. After noise compensated image data are quantized by a quantizer 16 and displayed on a screen 18, noise of the device 14 converts noise compensated image data into continuous gradation image data and generates almost any, or completely no, pseuo outline. There exist other methods in which intrinsic noise of a human visual system is used in place of the static display noise or both the intrinsic noise of the human visual system and static display noise are used, and a special adjustment can be conducted for the human visual system with respect to a color display.
