PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance assembly ability and sealing performance in a hydraulic shock absorber in which the damping force on the extension side and the compression side is adjustable with a single solenoid damping valve. SOLUTION: In the hydraulic shock absorber 10 in which the passages of both strokes of the extension side and the compression side are set in one direction, and the damping force in both strokes is made adjustable with the single solenoid damping valve, a bottom piece 26 for closing the bottom of a damper cylinder 13 within an outer tube 11 is installed, the bottom piece 26 has a bottom case 27 being interposed between a diameter shrunk part 11A of the outer tube 11 and the damper cylinder 13, and the solenoid damping valve 28 is assembled in the bottom case 27.
