PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a preparation method of an olefin polymer (especially an ethylene/α-olefin copolymer) which contains an extremely small amount of a low-molecular- weight and/or a low crystalline polymer and which has good particle properties and a preparation method of a solid catalyst component for the olefin polymerization. SOLUTION: The solid catalyst component for olefin polymerization is obtained by contacting (a) a support comprising a polymer particle having an average particle diameter of 1-300μm and a carboxylic group with (b) a compound of a group IV transitional metal in the periodic table. The catalyst for olefin polymerization is obtained by contacting (A) the solid catalyst component for olefin polymerization with (B) an organic aluminum compound and/or an organic aluminumoxy compound. The preparation method of an olefin polymer uses the catalyst for olefin polymerization. The preparation method of the solid catalyst component for olefin polymerization comprises contacting (a) a support comprising a polymer particle having an average particle diameter of 1-300μm and a carboxylic group with (b) a compound of a group IV transitional metal in the periodic table.
