PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce generation of abrasion powder generated from sliding contact of a plug and a compression coil spring in a plug screwing-in type tensioner. SOLUTION: This tensioner 10 is provided with a plunger 14 to which projection force is imparted from a body 12. A female screw part is carved on the other end of a cylindrical hollow part 16 of the body 12. A plug 24 is screwed in the female screw part. A coil spring 32 is inserted into a spring receivivng hole 22 of the plunger 14 and a spring receiving hole 26 of the plug 24. The coil spring 32 is a left hand wind spring. While, the screwing direction of the plug 24 into the body 12 is the right direction, and the winding direction of the coil spring 32 is different from the screwing-in direction of the plug 24. Since the screwing-in direction of the plug 24 and the winding direction of the coil spring 32 are different, even if the coil spring 32 slidingly moves on a bottom surface of the spring receiving hole 22 of the plunger 14 or a bottom surface of the spring receiving hole 26 of the plug 24, a hitch is reduced, so that assembling becomes easy.
