The analytical technique is based on the difference in protonic affinity between, on the one hand, the molecules of a discharge gas and molecules of the gas to be analyzed, and on the other hand, between the impurities and the gas molecules to be analyzed. The installation comprises an ionization chamber supplied with a discharge gas and equipped with a discharge electrode at a discharge voltage suitable for ionization of the discharge gas. The electrode comprises a hollow metallic needle defining a channel for the supply of the gas to be analyzed. An Independent claim is also included for the ionization process.
